Lone Star Creek Vineyard is a well-established vineyard in the Upper Yarra Valley in Victoria. It is just one hour east of Melbourne, with self-contained accommodation on the property.

It is a great location to make your base if you would love to experience all the delights of the Yarra Valley region. The property features wonderful views of the natural environment. Take a walk around the property and alongside the creek. You will see, for example, beautiful tree ferns, manna gums, daisy orchids and other native flora in our bushland.

The property is a working farm, including some sheep that help with our vineyard management. You are welcome to wander on the roads and tracks across the vineyard and the bush areas and down to the dams. However, please be aware that farm work occurs during the week and sometimes on the weekends (depending on the season). This means that equipment such as tractors and all-terrain vehicles can be moving about the property.

Therefore, you may hear some farm sounds like a tractor, or sheep baaing. But mostly you’ll just hear the frogs at the dams at night and the bird calls in the morning. We are fortunate to have kangaroos, wombats and echidnas as regular residents/visitors on our property. You will usually see them at dusk and early mornings. They are now used to seeing humans, but please keep your distance as they are very much animals in the wild. You may even be lucky enough to spot a wedge-tail eagle or other raptors!

If you would like a guided walk through the Vineyard to learn about the activities on the farm, we’re very happy to provide this. Please call the owners to arrange an appointment.

The vineyard and winery

Lone Star Creek Vineyard lies in some of the best and most beautiful wine growing country in the world. We enjoy stunning views of the Yarra Ranges in the Upper Yarra Valley. Our land has 56 hectares of rolling hills and bushland, on which 22 hectares of wine grapes are planted.

Started by us in 1997, we planted Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz grapes. We have also built wild life corridors and habitat on the land.

We grow cool-climate grapes that are usually among the last picked in the region. The rolling hills, variable soil types and work practices give the vineyard its unique terroir.

As contract growers, we have established a solid reputation for quality and consistency in our grape production. Building the provenance of our vineyard is our next project. So we began making  wine under the Lone Star Creek Vineyard label. The 2017 vintage was the first public release.

Lone Star Creek Vineyard wines exhibit classic Upper Yarra character of elegance and finesse while exhibiting all the power needed for an enjoyable experience with food or stand alone.

Franco D’Anna (winemaker at Hoddles Creek Estate), is making our wines which express the unique character of our vineyard with minimal intervention in the winery. He has a deep understanding of the potential offered by our vineyard, having purchased our wine grapes for his own labels for many years.

Our label is a representation of all that is dear to us, including our Wiltshire sheep that help sustain the productivity of the vineyard. Volumes are small and will remain so.

We aim to deliver high quality and value for money wines.

Wines may be purchased on line or through email.

We have lived on site since 2013 and so we are actively involved in the day to day activities of the vineyard.
