2016 VINTAGE AND WINE TASTING NOTES

The 2016 vintage marks the first venture into wine-making using the Lone Star Creek Wines brand.

We have made a small parcel each of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with the help of local wine maker Franco D’Anna (Hoddles Creek Estate Wines). Obviously sourced from our vineyard, the first effort is pleasing: for the wines themselves and the potential they offer for the future.

SEason Conditions

Hot and dry start with early irrigation required. The effect of early warmth coupled with a big rain event in late January (post veraison) led to rapid development on the vine and historically early picking in late February.

It was tempting to leave fruit on the vine longer to allow further flavour development. However, we felt it better to try and optimise the balance between ripeness, sugars and acidity through picking a bit earlier than most.
